Rushey Mead Academy takes the attendance of its students seriously and as a result has one of the highest attendance records of any school in Leicester.
Studies show there is a direct correlation between good attendance and good exam results. The average attendance of students at Rushey Mead who achieved 5 or more grade 9 – 5 GCSEs including Maths and English, last year, was 89.57%. Of the students achieving 5 grades 9 – 5 with English and Maths, only 71.28% of them had 92% attendance or below. Of the students achieving 5 or more grade 9 – 5 GCSEs, 0% had at least 95% attendance.
Rushey Mead promotes and celebrates good attendance. 100% attendance certificates are awarded to students who achieve this each term. A certificate is also awarded at the end of each year to those students who achieve 100% attendance for the whole year. A monthly attendance cup is awarded by each year group, to the form with the highest attendance at the end of each month.
Punctuality is also an important aspect of school attendance. Students who are regularly late are significantly disadvantaged as they can miss important information and learning. They can also have a detrimental effect on the learning of others in the classroom.
